(NEXSTAR) – Jonesing for a Trader Joe’s to open in your neighborhood? You might be in luck.
The grocery store chain currently has 30 locations listed under the “Opening Soon” tab of its website, including more than a dozen which were added since an update in April.
The opening dates for the forthcoming Trader Joe’s locations have yet to be determined, but a spokesperson for the company said new stores are “typically” announced anywhere from 3–6 months before opening, but can “vary widely.”
“When an opening date is confirmed, we add it to the store’s local page,” the spokesperson said.
As of mid-July, the “Opening Soon” section of the Trader Joe’s website lists 30 planned locations:

When selecting a location for a new store, Trader Joe’s marketing executives Tara Miller and Matt Sloan once explained in a 2024 episode of the “Inside Trader Joe’s” podcast that the company seeks out spaces that meet specific criteria for population density, traffic patterns and parking availability, among other factors.
The two also emphasized that Trader Joe’s is very deliberate about its “controlled growth,” and may even avoid moving into spaces that housed former chain grocery stores, as it wouldn’t “feel” like a Trader Joe’s.
The company has, however, raised eyebrows with the opening of its newest store in Sherman Oaks, California, which opened directly across the street from an existing Trader Joe’s in June.
“I just asked the worker, ‘How long is the other Trader Joe’s going to stay open?’” a TikTok user by the name of @ShavsPaper claimed in a recent viral video. “And she said, “Um, they just signed their lease. They just resigned their lease. So at least three years.”
At the time, a representative for Trader Joe’s also told Nexstar that the company planned to keep “both stores open” for the foreseeable future.
