Weather check: Ocean conditions for M2O World Championships

HONOLULU (KHON2) — KHON2’s own Justin Cruz gives a check on weather conditions for the Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championships on Sunday, July 20.

M2O is the only race of its kind, which connects 40 miles of open ocean between Molokai and Oahu.

The race begins at 11 a.m. from Molokai’s Kepuhi Beach, where competitors will paddle west across the Kaʻiwi Channel to Oahu’s Kaimana Beach.

Winds are from the northeast at 10 to 15 knots, with four to five feet seas. Waves at the northeast will sit at five feet at six seconds.

Competitors will see mostly dry conditions with stray isolated showers.

Cruz said winds will not be too vigorous, but the light to moderate trades will give competitors a boost.

Ocean waves will do the same, as competitors will not face the winds or swells directly.
