Expect disruptions in Aiea on Kamehameha Highway

AIEA, Oahu (KHON2) — Tonight on July 21 starting at 8:30 p.m., the Honolulu Board of Water Supply will be repaving a portion of the Westbound lane of Kamehameha Highway between Honomanu Street and Kihale Street.

The highway is a frequent shortcut to beat traffic on the freeway, so this road work is expected to cause significant disruptions.

“In other words, stay away from the area,” said Kathleen Pahinui, Honolulu Board of Water Supply spokesperson. “It’s probably going to be a little jammed up on traffic. I would take Moanalua if you can.”

The repaving work is in response to damages to the road following a recent water main break.

While the Honolulu Board of Water Supply is aware of the disruption this will cause, especially to those used to that route to avoid traffic, they reaffirm that taking action as soon as possible is for the best.

“If we don’t go in there and fix it now and make it nice and smooth for the commuter, it just gets worse, bumpier and bumpier, and that’s not good for anyone,” said Pahinui. “This is just part of what we always do. After a main break, we’ll patch it up just temporarily, and then we have a contractor that comes back and does more high-level paving.”
