Maui upgrade: New fire station coming to Olowalu

OLOWALU, Maui (KHON2) — A long-awaited upgrade is finally coming to Olowalu, West Maui.

The West Maui Improvement Foundation announced that the Olowalu fire station project has raised enough money to be built.

The foundation said they raised $3 million for the station. The same group raised funds to build the Napili fire station over two decades ago.

“This is a miracle in process, unparalleled anywhere in the State of Hawai‘i,” said Joseph Pluta, President of WMIF.

Pulta added that the station will be a modular fire station shipped in from Canada.

“The County had no plans to build another one. We all know we have inadequate fire protection in West Maui and needed another fire station,” Pulta said.

With an increase in wildfire threats, the future fire station will be critical for ensuring faster response times and greater protection for the community.
