Weekend Roundup: Christmas in July, fun runs and more!

HONOLULU (KHON2) — This is Weekend Roundup, your go-to destination for weekend planning in the islands. For this weekend of July 26 and July 27, there are a bunch of fun events for everybody to enjoy across the islands.

Here’s everything you need to have a fantastic weekend:

July 26

Oʻahu

Wet ‘n’ Wild will be hosting their Christmas in July event, complete with extended park hours from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The festivities will include several showings of the holiday classic “Elf,” as well as photos with Santa Claus and several other Christmas-themed activities.

The event is also serving as a fundraiser for keiki — if you donate brand-new school supplies to Wet ‘n’ Wild, you will receive a free keiki ticket for entry. The collected donations will go to the Education for Homeless Children and Youth in the Waiʻanae Complex Department of Education.

For animal lovers, the Hawaiian Humane Society will be hosting their second annual Keiki, Canine and Kitty Fest at their Kosasa Campus in Ewa Beach.

The event is presented by Josie’s ʻOhana, and will be complete with food, drinks, a keiki corner, face painting and more.

Attendees are asked to leave their furry friends at home, but the Hawaiian Humane Society says that there are plenty of adorable — and adoptable — animals for families to meet.

The event runs from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., with the suggested admission being pet food or an item on the Hawaiian Humane Society’s Amazon wish list.

In Waimea Valley, their summer concert series continues with several performances from Kainani Kahaunaele, Kalaʻe Camarillo and more.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. on the main lawn, with tickets available online for purchase.

Hawaiʻi Island

The Big Island Substance Abuse Council is hosting their 11th annual Summer Jam event. The free, family-friendly event aims to bring together the community while building awareness about substance abuse and addiction, while removing stigmas surrounding it.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Francis Wong Stadium parking lot, and will feature a pop-up craft fair, a health fair, keiki fun zone, athletic competitions, food and more.

Maui

The Maui Ocean Center will have its annual Coral Spawning Night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The night will feature a stunning display of coral reproduction, with the goal of the night to encourage the rebuilding of local reefs.

Kauaʻi

The Historic Koloa Plantation Days Parade will be in full swing on the island, with the parade beginning at 3 p.m.

The route will go from Koloa School to the Anne Knudsen ballpark. The parade will showcase horseback units, floral floats, vintage cars and more, with each part of the parade representing an aspect of plantation life.

July 27

Oʻahu

The Sea Life Park Hawaiʻi is having a special shark-inspired Keiki Sunday, with the event coming with buy one, get one general admission tickets, with one adult ticket coming with a free keiki ticket.

For Keiki Sunday, the activities will include shark-themed crafts and games, activities, photo opportunities, giveaways and more.

The Sea Life Park is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and more information is available on their website.

At Thomas Square Park, the City and County of Honolulu is inviting you to the commemoration of Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, or Sovereignty Restoration Day.

While the holiday falls on July 31, the commemoration will take place this Sunday.

The celebration honors when sovereignty was returned to King Kamehameha III, following a five-month British occupation of the islands.

The event will feature music, food and a lowering of the Union Jack with a raising of the Hawaiian Flag. The festivities will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Waikele Premium Outlets will be hosting a Summer Keiki Back-to-School event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is compete with fun activities, bike safety information and more.

The Honolulu Police Department will be in attendance to provide safety tips and Keiki IDs. HPD’s Keiki ID program provides children with cards containing their photo and emergency information, in the event they should be lost or separated from their ʻohana.

Keiki can also receive a free bike helmet at the event, courtesy of a partnership with the Hawaiʻi Bicycling League.

Hawaiʻi Island

The Experience Volcano Festival will be happening in Volcano, with festivities beginning at 10 a.m.

While the event will also take place on Saturday, the Sunday schedule will feature hula performances, lei making, weaving, a rainforest tour and much more.

Most of the festival’s activities are free, and the event runs until 4 p.m. Parking will be available at the Volcano Golf Course, with a free shuttle to take you around to different events.

Maui

The Wailuku Community Farmers Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wailuku Shingon Mission.

The market will feature fresh local produce, such as eggs, honey, macadamia nuts and more. There will also be a chow fun sale at the market.

Kauaʻi

Koloa Plantation Days celebrations will continue into Sunday, with their Family Fun Run/Walk 5K, 10K, 10 mile and one mile keiki run.

The event will take place from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with participants choosing the length of the course they desire.
