HONOLULU (KHON2) — With the new school year starting soon, our partners at “Keiki O Ka Aina” are making sure keiki are ready.
On July 26, the Laulima Giving Program and Shriners Children’s Hospital were out collecting school supplies at the Kapolei Walmart.
“We help a lot of children in Title One schools, those who have a higher enrollment of low-income families,” said Michael Wong, Laulima Giving Program Manager. “There’s some schools that we help that 80% of their student population come from homeless shelters.”
The program’s goal is to help struggling families in Hawaiʻi.
“So we’re so happy to go out to schools on this side of the island, and the teachers are happy because they don’t have to pay for it. The principals are happy because now they can help their students be successful,” Wong added.
Just last year, the Laulima Giving Program helped 3,000 public school students across Oʻahu.
