Get safely to shore: ‘When in doubt, don’t go out!’

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Following the tsunami warning on July 29, high surf advisory and Red Flag Warnings led to a series of ocean safety rescues.

On Aug. 1, the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department responded to a man, 60, who was unresponsive on his bodyboard. He was found 15 yards outside the swimming area of Paradise Cove Beach.

OSD operators brought the man to shore and performed CPR. He was then transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

Over 8,165 preventative actions and 201 rescues were performed during July 31 on Oahu’s south shore, OSD reported. Lifeguards stayed overtime to help.

One of the ocean rescues was of an unresponsive man, 50, in Kakaako. He was 200 yards from the surf spot known as Point Panic.
