HONOLULU (KHON2) — Oahu’s traffic fatality count continues to rise following a crash in the Kualoa area that claimed the life of a 23-year-old moped rider.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Officials said the man was driving southbound on Kamehameha Highway “when he attempted to execute a wheelie, lost control” and swerved into the northbound lanes.
He then collided head-on with a 53-year-old driver.
Paramedics with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the collision and treated the man for life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
