LAHAINA, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Maui Emergency Management Agency warns the public of a brush fire in the Kaanapali area.
According to MEMA, flames were reported around noon on Monday, Aug. 4, mauka of Honoapiilani Highway near Kakaalaneo Drive in Lahaina.
Maui County firefighters are on scene and actively attacking the flames.
Honoapiilani Highway has been closed “to allow the helicopters to draw water from the ocean for firefighting operations,” said MFD in a social media post.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area between Puukolii Road and Lower Honoapiilani Highway.
Maui County said no brush fire size estimates or other details are available at this time.
While no evacuations have been issued, officials warn residents and visitors to be ready to evacuate if needed.
