HONOLULU (KHON2) — When you call 911, it’s important to get as much information as you can to the dispatcher so they can send help as soon as possible.
911 dispatchers have a goal to send resources within 60 seconds of receiving the call.
According to Honolulu Fire Department Cap. Jaimie Song, the public should not assume someone else has made a call for help.
“If you see something, say something,” she said.
Many times, people assume someone else has made the call, which can delay help arriving.
Another huge tip is to always let the dispatchers know your location, as it will be the first question they ask when receiving your call.
The public is advised to keep their location services enabled before calling 911, as texting 911 does not transmit location information.
