Coast Guard, HFD extinguish boat fire near Ala Wai Harbor

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The U.S. Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Honolulu Fire Department, extinguished a boat fire near the Ala Wai Harbor on Aug. 6.

The Coast Guard was first notified at 7 a.m. of the fire on the vessel.

The 29-foot uninspected boat, called the Kamakahonu, had six people aboard during its engine fire, the Coast Guard said.

A nearby passenger vessel, the Makai, was able to host the passengers of the Kamakahonu while officials handled the fire.
