HONOLULU (KHON2) — Do you have any unwanted firearms? The Honolulu Police Department and the Department of Law Enforcement is looking to take them off your hands.
On Friday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the departments will host a gun buyback event.
The event will be held at the Waianae Police Station, which aims to dispose of any unwanted firearms, reducing the risk of gun-related violence in local neighborhoods.
HPD said this event offers residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of any unwanted guns.
During the event, all firearms must be unloaded, secured in a container and kept in the trunk of your car.
There will be no acceptance of ammunition, no identification is required and no questions will be asked during the collection process.
According to State Law, collected firearms will be safely destroyed by DLE.
Participants will receive up to $200 in gift cards in exchange for each firearm, with a maximum of receiving three gift cards.
Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement members are not eligible to participate.
