Five years after the closure of the iconic Aloha Stadium, state officials unanimously agreed on redevelopment contracts to begin demolition to the venue and construction on its replacement.
The Aloha Stadium Authority on Wednesday voted to execute agreements with Aloha Halawa District Partners, a group that includes Stanford Carr Development and Hawaiian Dredging, marking the formal start of the public-private project.
The state has allocated $400 million with the developer responsible for remaining costs to build a 22,500-seat stadium, with completion targeted for March 2029, one year later than initial projection.
The venue is expected to host a variety of entertainment events, with its most high-profile tenant being the University of Hawaii football team. The Rainbow Warriors have played at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on a temporary basis since 2021.
