HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Aug. 12, the Honolulu Police Department executed a search warrant around 5 p.m. at an illegal Waipahu game room on Lumiauau Street.
Officers discovered 16 gambling machines and nearly $3,000 in cash during the search.
A 62-year-old woman and 25-year-old man were arrested for possession of a gambling device and promoting gambling.
HPD shut down 60 game rooms in the last year, reported the Honolulu Prosecutor’s office.
“We take out one [game room] and they open somewhere else,” said HPD Maj. Ray Ikehara. “We find one, the community sends us complaints about it, and it’s a non-stop chase.”
