Multiple H-1 collisions shut down portion of freeway

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two separate crashes on the H-1 westbound shut down portions of the freeway during the nighttime commute on Aug. 14.

According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, the first collision occurred at approximately 8 p.m. near the Nu‘uanu overpass.

First responders say that a collision between a sedan and a truck occurred, causing the sedan to hit the median and end up on its side.

A 10-year-old girl was in the truck during the collision, and sustained minor injuries, EMS said.

She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Soon after, at approximately 8:30 p.m., another collision took place near the Middle Street exit.

According to EMS, a 73-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross the freeway when he was struck by a vehicle.

First responders say that the pedestrian suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Both collisions resulted in a closure of the westbound lanes in their respective areas, with police on the scene.
