Honolulu stays alive in Little League World Series

Honolulu survived and advanced at the Little League World Series on Wednesday, keeping its championship hopes alive with a 9-1 victory over Illinois in an elimination game.

The West Regional champions pounded out 15 hits, led by Kobe Lumford and Bronson Fermahin, who combined to go 6-for-6 at the plate. Fermahin launched a three-run homer, while Lumford crossed the plate twice.

Honolulu’s pitching staff held Illinois in check, as Mason Mitani, Evan Crawford and Logan Brokaw combined to allow just one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Honolulu moves on to face the loser of Monday’s game between Nevada and South Carolina in another elimination matchup Tuesday at 9 a.m. HST on ESPN.

The team is aiming for Hawaii’s fifth Little League World Series championship since 2005. Two of those titles came under current manager Gerald Oda, who guided Honolulu to championships in 2018 and 2022.
