HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu police confirm the human remains found after a brush fire in Kapolei on Aug. 19 were not dismembered.
In a previous report, EMS said that the body found was dismembered. However, Honolulu police took to social media to confirm that after an autopsy performed on Aug. 20, the body found was not dismembered, and there is no indication of foul play.
HPD continued saying that the case remains classified as an Unattended Death, with the cause and manner of the death still pending.
This comes after a body was found after a brush fire burned through a homeless encampment.
Police said they were called to Kapolei Parkway just after 2 a.m. Firefighters said they found a small, corrugated structure on fire and that the flames were under control by 2:02 a.m. This is where a body was discovered inside, according to HPD.
HFD said the body was “burned beyond recognition.”
