HONOLULU (KHON2) — A fatal crash in the McCully area has increased Oʻahu’s traffic deaths in 2025 to 55. This is more than double the 26 fatalities recorded at the same time last year.
On Aug. 21, at around 3:23 p.m., the Honolulu Police Department reported that a 67-year-old man was driving on Kemole Lane, ran a stop sign and made a left turn onto Young Street.
A 72-year-old woman was walking eastbound on Young Street when she was struck by the car.
Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this case.
This incident highlights a concerning rise in traffic deaths on Oʻahu in 2025.
With 55 fatalities already reported, officials stress that roadway safety remains an urgent issue.
