HONOLULU (KHON2) — Rainbow Warriors Football will be hosting Stanford University on Aug. 23 at the Ching Complex, with fans and University of Hawaiʻi officials alike eager to kick off football season.
The theme for the game is a white out, with all participants encouraged to wear white to display unity between the fans and the players.
“Imagine 15,000 people sitting in these seats at the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex, enjoying themselves, Hawaiʻi taking on Stanford, all wearing white, the team on the field iced out wearing white as well, all in unison,” said Director of Marketing and Fan Experience Eric Mathews.
The game will be at 1:30 p.m., but will come with a day full of activities.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the tailgating lot will open up, which requires a purchased tickets. At 11 a.m., there will be a Warrior Walk, with the team moving into the locker room.
After the Warrior Walk, there will be a live DJ and other music, as well as fun attractions such as 18 total food trucks for fans to enjoy.
There will also be a concert before every football game this season, with the first game’s concert featuring band High Watah.
“Hawaiʻi is unique, in that this team is Hawaiʻi’s team, especially our D1 football team,” said UH President Wendy Hensel. “And so the ability to bring people together from all over the islands and come for a common purpose, especially in such a challenging moment, is a real unifying event for all of us.
