HONOLULU (KHON2) — The SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center has undergone a name change, which was announced on Aug. 26.
The arena will now be known as the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, named after the Bank of Hawaiʻi.
The name change comes as a result of a long-standing partnership with the bank and University of Hawaiʻi Athletics.
“We’re humbled and honored to enter this new chapter with a name that feels both familiar and fresh,” Bank of Hawaiʻi Chairman and CEO Peter Ho said. “Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center is a tribute to the shared history and enduring partnership between Bankoh and UH — institutions built on trust, connection and community spirit.”
UH Athletics Director Matt Elliott shared his excitement for the new name, saying that the change represents the bank’s support of Hawaiʻi’s team.
“Bank of Hawaiʻi has been a loyal supporter and sponsor of UH Athletics throughout the years,” Elliott said. “Their commitment has had a direct impact on the success of our teams and benefited our student-athletes in many ways.”
The new name is part of the bank’s 10-year, $5 million partnership with UH Athletics, which started in 2020.
