Wahine volleyball opens 2025 season this weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team hosts the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic to kick start their 2025 season.

They will enter their last Big West season as the favorite in the conference’s preseason coaches’ poll.

The Wahine Volleyball Classic will take place in the newly renamed Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center from Aug. 29 to 31.

With head coach Robyn Ah Mow’s ninth season, the ‘Bows are looking to make some noise, as this season marks the ‘Bows final year in the Big West before joining the Mountain West in 2026.

This year’s squad is a mixture of eight returnees and eight newcomers who seek to make an impact immediately. This includes senior Eastern Washington transfer Bri Gunderson (middle blocker), who represented UH Volleyball on the Big West Preseason Coaches’ Team.

The Rainbow Wahine will open their season with a matchup against Marquette at 7 p.m. on Fri.  Then they’ll face Utah State on Sat. at 7 p.m. and end the weekend against San Diego on Sun. at 5 p.m.

Middle blocker Miliana Sylvester led the team in blocks last season with 91. She was also named a part of the Big West All-Freshman Team, along with Gunderson, who was selected to be a part of the All-Big Sky first team last year.
