HONOLULU (KHON2) — There has been a warning to the public about a new scam in which callers pretend to be from the Hawaii Supreme Court Clerk’s Office.
There were several recent reports stating that scam callers falsely claim to represent the clerk’s office, “spoofing” their number so that it appears to be coming from the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office.
City officials say that scammers tell recipients that they have to pay a fee and report to the clerk’s office immediately to avoid arrest.
These callers are fraudulent and can attempt to intimidate people into paying money they do not owe.
Things to remember:
- The Hawaiʻi State Judiciary does not call, email, or text to demand payment or personal information for court-related matters.
- Official notices from the courts are sent by U.S. mail, unless you have contacted the Judiciary first with a specific question.
If you receive any suspicious phone calls, hang up immediately.
