In a special edition of Hawai‘i Sports 2Night, former University of Hawai‘i football standout, coach and broadcaster Rich Miano was surprised with the news that he will be inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor Class of 2026.
Miano’s football journey is one of the most accomplished in Hawai‘i sports history. A Prep Bowl championship-winning defensive back at Kaiser High School, he went on to walk on at UH, where he became an All-Conference selection and team MVP. His standout play earned him a spot in the National Football League, where he spent 11 years with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons.
After his playing career, Miano returned home to coach at UH for 13 seasons, helping the program to three conference titles and eight bowl appearances. He later guided his alma mater, Kaiser, to a state championship as head coach. For the last decade, Miano has been a familiar voice for fans as a broadcaster with KHON2 (Cover2 & Hawaii Football Final) and Spectrum Sports, serving as a color commentator for UH football games.
In the episode, Miano became emotional as he reflected on what the honor means to him, the inspiration behind his journey, and the legacy he hopes to leave as a member of the Circle of Honor.
