The Kumulipo is a cherished Hawaiian chant world-renowned for telling the origins of the Hawaiian people, creation of the universe and genealogy of chiefs.

All 2,102 lines will be performed by five hālau in honor of Queen Liliʻuokalani to honor her life and legacy during her birth month.

“Hearing the Kumulipo in its entirety is a profound gift for our lāhui. It is a chance to stand in the presence of our kūpuna, to honor our Queen, and to carry forward the wisdom that has guided our people for generations,” said Kumu Mehanaokalā Hind, senior advisor to the CEO at the Hawaiian Council and Kumu Hula.

Everyone is encouraged to gather in aloha and experience this demonstration along with other performances led by the hālau.

You can experience this free historic event on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at ʻIolani Palace. To register for the event, please visit the website.
