Bank of Hawai‘i service day celebrates unity and care

HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Bank of Hawai‘i employees, along with family and friends, all gathered today in an effort to serve the community of Kahauiki Village.

On Sept. 13, over 150 BOH volunteers spread out across the housing community to mark its 18th annual Community Service Day, providing services such as painting exteriors and common areas, power-washing walkways, picking up trash, wiping down units, and cleaning windows.

“Kahauiki Village is a powerful example of what can happen when people come together to care for one another,” said Bank of Hawai‘i Chairman and CEO Peter Ho. “We’re proud to support The Institute for Human Services.”

The Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to The Institute for Human Services in support of its program, which provides housing for formerly homeless families and kūpuna, residents of Kahauiki Village.

“Kahauiki Village embodies hope and community at its core,” said IHS Executive Director Connie Mitchell, MS, APRN. “Bank of Hawai‘i’s work day with us clearly communicates to all our village residents that they are not alone.”

Volunteers painted two new murals by local artist Kaelyn Okuhata as a gift to the community.

The art highlights the Hawaiian values of kuleana (responsibility) and lōkahi (unity), reminding everyone to care for one another and work toward a brighter future.
