HONOLULU (KHON2) — We’re just 13 days away from Hawaii’s largest cycling event, the Honolulu Century Ride!
The Hawaii Bicycling League is celebrating its 50th anniversary and is set to host over a thousand participants on Sept. 28, featuring fun for the whole family and a new course.
“We have two miles of car-free Kaiwi Coast for cyclists to enjoy as they bike out to the first Aid Station at Sandy Beach Park. It makes for a great 25-mile round trip,” said Chris Salas, the events director for the HBL. “It brings multiple communities together, and it gives people the opportunity to challenge themselves. Maybe choose a distance you’ve never biked before and go for it with the support of HBL, HPD and our volunteers.”
The 100-mile trek takes participants from Kapiolani Park through east Honolulu and east Oahu to Kaaawa, but there are also 75-, 50- and 25-mile courses for those who prefer a shorter experience. There are even shorter opportunities.
“We offer the Honolulu Aloha Fun Ride as a keiki and novice option. It starts a little bit later, 8:30 as opposed to 6:15, and is 8 miles out and back on Kahala Road,” Salas said.
