Matsuzawa selected MW Special Teams Player of the Week

For the second time in four weeks, University of Hawai‘i placekicker Kansei Matsuzawa has been named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week.

The senior from Tokyo, Japan, earned the honor after hitting all three of his field goal attempts in the Rainbow Warriors’ 23-3 victory over Portland State on Saturday. Matsuzawa also won the award in Week 0 when he drilled the game-winner in UH’s season-opening win over Stanford.

Against the Vikings, Matsuzawa twice surpassed his previous career-long, connecting from 44 and 47 yards. He finished 3-for-3 on field goals and added two extra points.

Matsuzawa remains perfect on the season, converting all 11 of his field goal tries and all eight of his point-after attempts. He leads the FBS with 11 made field goals and ranks third nationally in scoring with 41 points.
