HONOLULU (KHON) — The Henry Kapono Foundation is celebrating music and culture across the state this month with more than 50 live performances as part of HKF Month and the “Home in the Islands Festival“.
The celebration is more than a showcase of talent; it’s a fundraiser and movement to sustain professional work for Hawaii’s musicians while building opportunities for future generations of artists.
This week features two signature events. The “Keiki to Legends Concert” takes place Tuesday, September 16, at Studio 50 Arts, with tickets available by donation through the Kailua Music School. The concert is designed to inspire and connect generations, bringing young talent and legendary island musicians together on one stage.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Foundation hosts its inaugural “In the Key of Aloha Gala” at the Alohilani Hotel. The evening includes a specially curated four-course dinner and a star-studded lineup featuring Henry Kapono, Jerry Santos, Brother Noland, Kimié Miner, Tavana, Kala‘e and Kalena Parish, along with rising stars from HKF’s “On the Rise” program. Musician Alx Kawakami will emcee. A limited number of individual Lōkahi tickets are available to the public.
Henry Kapono, musician and president of the Henry Kapono Foundation, says the month-long series is about more than music. “We’re celebrating Hawai‘i’s vibrant music community and creating real opportunities for artists to grow and share their gifts, whether at home or on global stages,” he said.
Board member and musician Alx Kawakami added that proceeds directly support the foundation’s mission. “The Henry Kapono Foundation uplifts working musicians, supports venues and education, and ensures the traditions of island music live on.”
