HONOLULU (KHON2) — A local Hawaiʻi teacher will soon be honored in a big way.
As part of Extra Yard for Teachers Week, the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl and Extra Yard for Teachers will surprise Lynn Otaguro, a mathematics teacher at W.R. Farrington High School, with a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift card.
The presentation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m.
Otaguro has taught for many years and is known for her care in and out of the classroom. She tutors students after school and often supports them at athletic events.
Colleagues and students describe her as a mentor who encourages confidence and persistence.
Extra Yard for Teachers Week runs Sept. 13–20, 2025. It recognizes the essential role of teachers across Hawai‘i.
The Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl works with Teach For America Hawai‘i to encourage teachers statewide to apply for classroom funding through DonorsChoose.
Support for the grants comes from the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Hawai‘i Bowl Foundation, Pearl Hawaii Federal Credit Union, Reyn Spooner and Zippy’s.
The Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl is set for Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus.
The game will feature teams from the Mountain West and American conferences and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
