HONOLULU (KHON2) — Big changes are coming for Hawaiian Airlines travelers. On Thursday, Sept. 26, HawaiianMiles will stop running as a separate program.
It will be combined with Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan to form a new loyalty program called Atmos Rewards.
That means there are important deadlines no later than Wednesday, Sept. 25. If you don’t prepare, you may lose access to your account for several days or miss chances to use your miles.
Account access freeze
From Sept. 26 through Sept. 30, you will not be able to log in to your HawaiianMiles account. You cannot view balances, redeem awards, change details or use saved payment and traveler information.
Normal access will return on Oct. 1, when Atmos Rewards begins. While you will have access, it is highly recommended that you take a screenshot of your rewards balance so you can ensure that your full balance does transfer.
Redeem miles early
If you plan to use HawaiianMiles for flights, you must redeem them before Sept. 26. Award redemptions will stop during the freeze. The new program begins Oct. 1; but until then, your miles will sit unused.
Hawaiian Airlines said earned miles and elite status will carry over at a one-to-one rate. Value will not disappear in the move to Atmos Rewards.
Steps to take before Thurs., Sept. 26
Travelers should:
- Redeem miles now if they want award flights.
- Save account records, including balances, traveler profiles and payment methods because there are no guarantees that that there will not be a mistake.
- Enroll in Huaka‘i by Hawaiian before Sept. 26 if you want resident benefits.
- Link HawaiianMiles and Alaska Mileage Plan accounts for smoother status matching.
- Check credit card accounts. The Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard and Business Mastercard will continue, but miles earned will flow into Atmos Rewards after Oct. 1.
What may change
Even though your balance will convert at a one-to-one rate, Atmos Rewards will not be identical to HawaiianMiles. Remember that rules for upgrades, elite status and benefits may shift once the new program begins.
Also, don’t forget that saved payment methods will not transfer; and while traveler profiles should carry over, it’s best to save your own records.
During the Sept. 26–30 freeze, no changes or redemptions are possible. If you have fall or holiday trips, be sure to redeem those miles early to avoid problems.
What it means for travelers
The HawaiianMiles brand will end, but members are not supposed to lose value. All miles and elite status will move into Atmos Rewards at a one-to-one rate, and benefits will continue under the new program.
The key is timing. Travelers who redeem miles, save account details, and enroll in Huaka‘i by Hawaiian before Sept. 26 will avoid disruptions during the transition.
