HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a moped that occurred on the night of Sept. 23 in Kalihi.
The incident happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. on North King Street, east of Umi Street.
Authorities say that a 44-year-old man operating a moped was traveling eastbound on North King Street when he lost control and was ejected on the roadway.
After falling onto the road, the man was struck by a 60-year-old male driver, HPD said.
The moped driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services, officials said.
He later died from his injuries at the hospital, police said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, investigators said.
The male driver remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
This marks the 64th traffic fatality on the island, compared to 31 at the same time in 2024.
