MAUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Holomua brushfire on Maui has shown minimal fire activity as the days pass, with crews continuing to work on containment and extinguishing the fire, the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety said.
In a Sept. 25 update, the department said that there has been no fire growth and minimal overnight activity as tankers and aircrafts continue to support firefighters.
Firefighters have brought the fire to 70% containment, up from the 50% containment reported on Sept. 24. The burn zone has stayed steady at 380 acres.
The brushfire had began at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, which prompted evacuation orders. More than 1,670 individuals had to vacate their homes, but the orders were lifted later that day.
Additionally, there are no more road closures, as Baldwin Avenue reopened to traffic overnight. Originally, the fire had caused some road closures in the area.
