HONOLULU (KHON2) — By order of Gov. Josh Green, flags of the United States and the state of Hawai‘i will be flown at half-staff on Sept. 29 until sunset on Oct. 1.
This solemn act follows the attack at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, that resulted in three deaths, including the suspect, and others were injured on Sept. 28.
“Our hearts ache as we see the senseless violence that occurred again on the mainland, this time at a Michigan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Green said.
Flags will be flown at half-staff in all state offices and agencies to honor the victims of gun violence, Green added.
“This epidemic of violence must be addressed,” Green said. “We need more mental healthcare for all of our people and we need to recognize that the divisive rhetoric, from all parties, is threatening to burn our country to the ground.”
Doug Anderson, LDS church spokesperson, shared the church’s wish for peace.

“Places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries of peacemaking, prayer and connection,” Andersen said. “We pray for peace and healing for all involved.”
