Girl, 14, arrested following Big Island school shooting threat

HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi Police Department has opened an investigation after a Konawaena High School student allegedly threatened to shoot several classmates on campus, the department said on Sept. 29.

The threats were reported to authorities by a school administrator, who said they had received an email from an uninvolved student warning administrators of the situation, police said.

Investigators said they were able to determine that the threats allegedly occurred during school hours on Sept. 26.

On Sept. 28, HPD arrested a 14-year-old Ocean View girl for Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, which is a Class C felony.

The girl was later released to her parents pending further investigation, police said.

“The Hawai‘i Police Department take threats of violence extremely seriously, especially those directed towards students and schools. We would like to thank parents and other community members for their vigilance and coming forward to provide information to police.”
