KAUAI, Hawaii (KHON2) — A 42-year-old man is dead following a hit-and-run that occurred on the night of Sept. 26 in Hanamāʻulu, the Kauaʻi Police Department said.
Police said the hit-and-run occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Kūhiō Highway, where a man had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
The man had been airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center on Oʻahu, where he later died from his injuries on Sept. 28, officials said.
A 36-year-old woman was later arrested for Negligent Injury in the First Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Serious Injury and Inattention to Driving, KPD said.
She was subsequently released pending investigation, investigators said.
This marks Kauaʻi’s fifth traffic death of the year. KPD urges anyone with information that could further the investigation to contact Sgt. Hanna at (808) 241-1612.
