EMS: Unknown substance released inside Waikiki bank; 18 patients treated

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services are responding to a chemical incident at a Waikiki bank.

Multiple EMS units were dispatched to Kalakaua Ave just after 2 p.m. after patients reported burning eyes and sore throats after an unknown substance was released inside the building.

EMS said they evaluated 18 patients on scene and all were reported to be in stable condition. They added that the patients declined transportation to an emergency room.

HPD advises the public to avoid the area of Kalakaua Ave and Lewers St as they continue their active police investigation.
