Raise a glass to rebuild a community: Waikīkī and Maui unite for recovery

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikīkī Beach Resort and Kohola Brewery have launched ‘Raise a Glass for Maui.’ It’s a year-long effort to help communities still recovering from the 2023 Maui wildfires.

Through Aug. 15, 2026, the resort will give $1 from every Rainbow Pale Ale sold at Tropics Bar & Grill, Tapa Bar and Hau Tree Bar to Maui United Way.

“We are excited to partner with Kohola Brewery for this meaningful campaign,” said Debi Bishop, managing director of Hilton Hawaiian Village. “It is a small, yet impactful way for our guests and the resort to show support to our Maui ‘ohana as they continue to rebuild.”

A collaboration with purpose

The Raise a Glass for Maui campaign grew from the success of the resort’s Aloha for Maui Beer Dinner, which closed the Waikīkī Beer Dinner Series earlier this year. The sold-out event brought guests together for an evening of food, craft beer and community.

Hilton Hawaiian Village’s culinary team designed a multi-course menu that highlighted local flavors and ingredients, and each dish was paired with a different Kohola brew.

The highlight of the night was the debut of the Rainbow Pale Ale. It was created through a special collaboration between Hilton Hawaiian Village and Kohola Brewery.

Every dollar raised from the dinner went to Maui United Way. The strong turnout and enthusiasm from attendees showed how much guests wanted to help Maui’s recovery and set the stage for the resort’s longer-term commitment through the year-long Raise a Glass for Maui campaign.

Craft and community

Kohola Brewery, once at the heart of Lahaina’s lively craft beer community, lost both its taproom and production facility in the August 2023 wildfires.

The loss was felt deeply across Maui, where the brewery had become a gathering place for residents and visitors who valued its small-batch brews and local spirit.

Now rebuilding in Wailea, Kohola is working to reestablish its presence while expanding through its acquisition of Mahalo Aleworks. This new chapter allows the brewery to continue producing its signature beers and to keep its connection with the island’s brewing community alive.

Even as operations grow in a new space, Kohola’s focus remains rooted in community, craftsmanship and resilience. Each pint poured carries that same spirit of perseverance and aloha that helped shape the brewery from the start.

Supporting recovery

Since the 2023 wildfires, Maui United Way has been a steady source of support for residents whose lives were upended. The organization has provided emergency food and shelter, mental health services and long-term housing assistance to thousands of families across the island.

Its efforts have helped bridge the gap between immediate relief and lasting recovery to ensure that basic needs are met while communities rebuild homes, schools, businesses and a sense of normalcy.

Funds raised through Raise a Glass for Maui will go directly toward these programs. Each dollar contributes to keeping food on tables, providing counseling for those coping with loss and helping families secure safe, stable housing.

Beyond financial aid, the campaign represents connection for people across Hawaiʻi standing together for Maui’s ʻohana.
