HONOLULU (KHON2) — One of the biggest musical acts in Hawaii is back in the islands, finishing off a tour with shows on Maui and Oahu this weekend. Kolohe Kai will be playing at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center on Oct. 10 and at the Waikiki Shell on Oct. 11.
“We did 16 shows, east coast, west coast, but we wanted to end it off strong in Hawaii. We just finished Kauai and Kona this past weekend, and this weekend is going to be good fun too, so just excited to wrap this up with aloha,” said Kolohe Kai lead singer and founder Roman De Peralta.
He says the whole set is designed to teach “What Aloha Means,” which is the title of Kolohe Kai’s newest album.
“We have four sections of the show, aloha for aina that I’ve written songs over 16 years that I’ve written that relate to the land, aloha kai, the next section, about the ocean. Aloha yourself, a lot of mental health messages that I’ve put into this album and into this show to help people to know that we love them and we want them to love themselves, and you cannot love your neighbor without loving yourself,” De Peralta said. “The next part of the show is aloha others.”
Special guests are also on the stage.
“It’s a really fun show, we got Protogje and Kanaka Fyah with us. We got a halau with us, Namaka Studios, that’s going to be bringing our culture to life,” De Peralta said. “We’re just asking people to bring your aloha shirts and your good vibes and it’s going to be a good time.”
The show at MACC in Kahului is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, and the concert at Waikiki Shell is Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets can be found here.
