Hawaiʻi teens invited to enter statewide song contest

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Hawaiʻi high school students are being encouraged to share their musical talents through the Nā Pua Mele o Hawaiʻi Song Contest.

The statewide competition is presented by Mana Maoli and sponsored by Hilton Grand Vacations.

The event invites students in grades 9 through 12 to submit a song of any genre, including original compositions, covers, or mele Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian songs).

The contest aims to help students develop their skills and connect with local music professionals.

Prizes include:

  • Cash awards up to $1,500 for the top three winners
  • A professional studio recording session
  • One-on-one artist lessons
  • Scholarship support
  • The opportunity to perform live with Amy Hānaialiʻi at the Blue Note Hawaiʻi on Dec. 15

The top 20 finalists will also attend a day of workshops and mentorship with Amy Hānaialiʻi. Along with these sessions, they will provide insight into the music industry and guidance on how to grow as performers.

Entries are open through Oct. 22 and can be submitted online through the contest’s official submission form.

Organizers said the competition is a valuable opportunity for young artists to gain experience and take meaningful steps toward their musical goals.
