Test drive the new Skyline stations for free

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Looking for a new way to get around? The City and County of Honolulu is offering you a chance to try out the Skyline’s newest phase — free of charge.

On Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 from 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., the public can ride the Skyline, TheBus and TheHandi-Van for “Fare-Free Weekend.”

Officials said riders must continue tapping their HOLO cards when using transit systems, but no fares will be collected.

The Skyline Segment 2 added five additional miles and four new stations to the current rail system. Riders can now go from East Kapolei to Middle St.

TheBus is also seeing new routes to better accommodate Skyline riders who want to connect to key areas such as Chinatown, Downtown Honolulu, Kakaʻako, Ala Moana, Waikīkī and UH Mānoa. For more information on these updated routes, you can visit TheBus website.

The Skyline has also extended the operating hours to 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

“This is an exciting moment for our city and for everyone who has worked so hard to make Skyline a reality,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Every new mile and every new station represents progress for our city — connecting people to jobs, schools, and each other in ways that make Oʻahu stronger and more connected.”
