VIDEO: Kauaʻi man, 24, arrested for reckless endangering after illegal firework blast

HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Oct. 16, Kauaʻi Police Department responded to Kīlauea, Kauaʻi around 11:30 a.m. following reports of an explosion. No injuries were reported, but officials said a man fled immediately after the illegal firework blast.

Surveillance footage showed a man igniting what appeared to be an aerial firework, which flew beneath a parked car and exploded, officers said.

“This type of reckless behavior puts lives and property at risk,” said Assistant Chief Darren Rose.

KPD arrested a 24-year-old man for Reckless Endangering in the Second Degree.

He was charged for disorderly conduct with bail set at $1,000.

“Illegal fireworks have no place in our neighborhoods,” Rose said. “We urge the public to help keep our community safe by reporting dangerous or illegal activity. Your report could save lives.”
