Search underway for missing man after canoe found in Kailua

KAILUA, OʻAHU (KHON2) — Honolulu Ocean Safety and the United States Coast Guard are currently searching for a paddler who was reported missing Sunday morning after his canoe was found unoccupied.

Ocean Safety said that around 9:30 a.m., Oct. 19, a one-man canoe was found unoccupied approximately 100 yards south of Flat Island in Kailua near Kailua Beach Park.

Ocean Safety also said a foil-boarder found a paddle 100 yards south of where the canoe was found.

Officials said the canoe is believed to belong to a male in his 60s.

Currently, Rescue 6, Rescue 2, Rescue 6 Patrol Ski, HFD BAT 3, HFD Air 1 and the United States Coast Guard are on the scene searching for the missing man.
