Ocean Safety, HFD, USCG unveil more info in missing paddler case

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Ocean Safety, in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Honolulu Fire Department, is unveiling new information on the missing paddler off of Kailua.

The man was first reported missing on the morning of Oct. 19 when his canoe was found unoccupied at around 9:30 a.m. about 100 years south of Flat Island.

The paddler is believed to be in his 60s.

Since his disappearance, several air and water vehicles have scoured the water to find the missing paddler.

HFD has asked the public to avoid using private drones near the search area to avoid disrupting the mission of their search-and-rescue aircrafts.
