HONOLULU (KHON2) — Pizza consistently ranks amongst the popular types of foods in the United States. No matter where you go, you’re going to find a few pizza spots.
This love of pizza is what made us decide at Sandy’s Suggestions to find out what are Hawaiʻi resident’s favorite pizza places.
Our favorites
Over the years, we’ve tried A LOT of pizzas here on Oʻahu. Of all the ones we have tried, these are the five places that left a lasting impression on us.
1. Zucchi Pizza
Our number one choice for best pizza on Oʻahu is, hands down, Zucchi Pizza. The crust is made with fermented Italian flour that creates the most amazing chewy and flavorful crusts; and they’re cooked in a special woodfire oven imported from Napoli, the birthplace of Italian pizzas.
“When you come here, you’re not just grabbing a slice,” said Zucchi, owner and operator. “You’re tasting something made with intention.”
2. Harbor Pub & Pizza
This place is one of Honolulu’s oldest restaurants, and the pizza crusts are made in house every day from an old family recipe that has been used since the restaurant opened. These hand-tossed pizzas are ono and worth the trip to Waikīkī.
Harbor Pub & Pizza was also included in our polling favorites for Oʻahu by those who voted.
3. ʻAiea Bowl & The Alley
The Alley is probably Oʻahu’s original best pizza place. With sourdough, hand-tossed crusts and innovative toppings, The Alley has been satisfying pizza cravings for about 20 years.
4. ʻIli ʻIli Cash & Carry
This little Italian shop offers pizzas and sandwiches made exclusively with imported Italian ingredients. The pizzas are crafted like Brooklyn-style thin crust pizzas; so, they’re easily foldable and super yummy. The only issue we’ve experienced with this particular pizza place is consistency.
5. Pizza Mamo
Pizza Mamo is a tiny pizza place in Chinatown that has a pretty small menu. But what they lack in selection is made up for in their pizza creations. Our favorites are the Potato and the Honeycreeper pizzas. They also offer delicious Detroit-style pan pizzas that will wow your taste buds.
Honorable mention: We couldn’t create this list without mentioning Amina Pizzeria. The selection is great, and the owners are super nice. Word of advice: Bake the pizza a wee bit longer once you get home.
