HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is celebrating two of its largest graduating classes in recent years.
The 217th class will graduate on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Moanalua High School Performing Arts Center.
The class has a total of 21 recruits, including 17 men and four women.

“We’re always proud of our recruits who make it all the way through the program,” said Interim Deputy Chief Aaron Takasaki-Young. “That means we’re putting the right people in the right place. They understand the responsibility of being an officer and take it seriously.”
In addition to the 217th class, two transfers from the Kauai and Alaska police departments also graduated on Monday, Oct. 20, who completed a shortened curriculum.
HPD’s 219th recruit class also began training on Oct. 20 at the academy, marking the largest recruit size since the 218th class, which includes 40 total recruits, 37 men and three women.
“We’re excited to see the initiatives we began in 2024, along with more recent improvements we’ve made, showing a positive impact on recruitment,” said Major Parker Bode, head of HPD’s Human Resources Division. “These programs give individuals multiple paths into HPD while providing the guidance necessary to help shape them into outstanding officers, ready to serve and protect with aloha.”

The 219th recruit class is scheduled to graduate in May 2026.
