HONOLULU (KHON2) — Flights are being canceled for travelers heading to and from Hawaii through Alaska Airlines following an IT outage affecting the airline nationwide.
A spokesperson for Hawaiian Airlines said the issue began around 3:30 p.m. due to a “failure at their primary data center.”
The outage caused a systemwide ground stop for Alaska and later caused delays and cancellations. According to officials, all flights have been canceled for the night.
“The IT outage has impacted several of our key systems that enable us to run various operations, necessitating the implementation of the ground stop to keep our aircraft in position. The safety of our flights was never compromised,” the spokesperson added.
Officials said the outage is not part of a cybersecurity event and is not related to any other events.
“We deeply apologize to our guests whose travel plans have been disrupted today. We’re working to get them to their destinations as quickly as we can.”
Impacted travelers are advised to check their flight status HERE and read up on Alaska’s flexible travel policy for the best support.
