Ghost stories and island legends highlight Hawaiʻi’s spooky season

HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Hawaiʻi State Public Library System is helping readers get into the Halloween mood with a collection of books featuring local ghost stories and island legends.

The featured titles include:

  • Hawaiʻi’s Best Spooky Tales by Rick Carroll
  • Mysteries of Honolulu by Lopaka Kapanui
  • The Night Marchers and Other Oceanian Tales
  • Obake Files: Ghostly Encounters in Supernatural Hawaiʻi by Glen Grant
  • Spooky Stuffs: Hawaiian Ghost Stories by Eric A. Knudsen.

Each book explores Hawaiʻi’s supernatural side, from shape-shifting spirits known as obake to the mysterious Night Marchers said to roam the islands at night.

The stories share a mix of folklore, history, and eerie encounters passed down through generations.
