MAKAHA (KHON2) — Two fishermen are in critical condition after being found unresponsive in the water off Kaʻena Point.
Ocean Safety received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. from a concerned hiker who spotted two young adult males in distress off Kaʻena Point State Trail near Yokohama Beach.
One of the fishermen had been swept into the water off the rocks while fishing, and the other male jumped in after him to save him, Ocean Safety said.
Reports said Ocean Safety Operators were out looking for the fishermen for nearly 30 to 40 minutes before they were discovered unconscious in the water. They were immediately taken to the nearby shore at Yokohama Beach and given CPR.
EMS co-responded to the scene on the beach where both men were not breathing and performed advanced life support. After their life-saving efforts, EMS transported both men to a nearby emergency room in critical condition.
