WAIʻANAE, Hawaiʻi (KHON2) – A 20-year-old man is in custody after police said he assaulted an officer during a disturbance in Waiʻanae this morning, Oct. 26.
Officials said District 8 officers responded to Ala Hema St. around 11:57 a.m. after getting reports of a man with a handgun arguing with a family member.
When officers arrived, the man became aggressive and tried to grab one of the officers’ guns.
Police said a struggle followed before the man was taken into custody. The officer had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Investigators later found that the weapon was an airsoft pistol.
Police said the man was arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer, and charges are pending with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
