O’ahu native, Correa continues to boost Purdue’s defense

HONOLULU (KHON2) – As week 9 makes its round for NCAA college football, O’ahu native Charles Correa put up astounding numbers coming from this week’s match-up for Purdue.

Hawai‘i’s own Charles Correa made a significant impact on defense this week. The former Saint Louis and Bishop Gorman standout totaled 13 tackles, including two solo stops, 11 assists, including half a sack and half a tackle for loss in a 27–24 loss to Rutgers.

Correa has been a consistent force for Purdue this season, ranking No. 2 among Big Ten linebackers in total tackles (49) and tackles for loss (5) as of Oct. 8. Now, he is at a career total of 72 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, the Hawai‘i native continues to make his presence felt as a leader on defense and a key playmaker for the Boilermakers.

Went 24-of-39 passing for a total of 289 yards, including one touchdown in a 34-42 loss to Virginia Tech.

Aiden Manutai, defensive back, Cal (Waipahu, HI)
Recorded five total tackles, three solo, along with two assists in a 34-42 loss to Virginia Tech.

Teitum Tuioti, linebacker, Oregon (Laʻie, HI)
Recorded five total tackles, four of them solo, along with one assist and 0.5 tackle for loss in a 7-21 win over Wisconsin.

Kapena Gushiken, safety, Ole Miss (Pukalani, HI)
Recorded six total tackles, five of them solo and one assist in a 34-26 win over Oklahoma.

Liona Lefau, linebacker, Texas (Laʻie, HI)
Recorded nine total tackles, one solo and eight assists in a 45-38 win over Mississippi St.
